The Australian Winter Olympic Team will take to the world stage at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games. The Nation's pride and passsion for Team Australia is a remarkable story of perseverance, growth and groundbreaking achievements.
Australia first completed at the Winter Olympics in 1936, sending just one athlete to Garmisch-Oartenkirchen, Germany. For decades the results were modest, as winter sports lacked the infrastructure and poplarity of their summer counterparts.
The very first Gold Winter Olympic Sports and the first in the SOuthern Hemisphere was won in an Iconic nail biting end to the Short Track Speed Skating event, which was wone by Steven Bradbury in spectaular fashion. It also coined a new term "doing a bradbury'.
2002 Alisa Camplin claimed Aerial Skiing gold just days after Bradbury and Torah Bright dazzled with snowboard halfpipe gold in 2010. In freestyle skiing, moguls star Dale Begg-Smith and Aerialist Lydia Lassila also became Olympic Champions, helping to put Australia on the Map in gravity-defying events.
The coin's reverse features a Freestyle Skier in a dynamic mid-air pose surrounded by snowflakes and Team Australia Graphics.
