The Colt Single Action Army (also known as the SAA, Model P, Peacemaker, or M1873) is a single-action revolver handgun. It was designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1872 by Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company (today known as Colt’s Manufacturing Company) and was adopted as the standard-issued pistol of the U.S. Army from 1873 until 1892.
Its overall appearance has remained consistent since 1873. Colt has cancelled its production twice, but brought it back due to popular demand. The revolver was dubbed the “Peacemaker”, and is a famous piece of Americana and the American Wild West era, due to its popularity with ranchers, lawmen, and outlaws alike. Today, they are mainly bought as memorabilia by collectors and re-enactors. Its design has influenced the production of numerous other models from other companies.

Beautiful but no performance or realistic
By: Chris McConachy on 29 January 2026Expect to wait about 5 days for delivery if your purchasing in Victoria. The boxing is sufficient but nothing fancy, which is fine. The pistol is a beautiful chrome finish that does impress. Functionally it does not work like a real Colt SAA. The cylinder can spin anti clockwise even with the hammer down. You only get one position when pulling back the hammer. It’s also not shaped like a real one with a larger grip however this does enhance spinning. It does not fit into holsters well at all, that other replicas fit into well. The trigger can cut your finger up if you go too hard on spinning. The loading gate is quite hard to open and the ejector removes bullets with effort. Better to load darts in from the front of the cylinder is faster and easier. The grip feels very plastic and is almost slippery. I did notice drag lines that scratch the cylinder with use over time which is disappointing to such a lovely finish. The pistol feels good in the hand but is lighter than Denix or Kolser replicas. Its shooting of darts is under whelming. Gel blaster shooters will be dis appointed with this but I enjoy shooting this indoors watching a western movie, without gel balls everywhere. It does mis fire occasionally for some reason. The bullet shells are plastic which is disappointing as YouTube videos I saw had them as metal. They come in a yuck tan color that I re colored in metallic brass texta which improved the look of the pistol when loaded, because you can see the edges of the bullets in the cylinder. I would buy at least 1 extra pack of the foam darts as they deteriorate and then don’t shoot as well. They do seem to get lost but worth looking for them at cost of replacement. I set up an area of pillows to catch the darts I shoot. Overall it represents good value at $180+ delivery but have noticed the price go up recently. Much higher and you would be considering other (more realistic) replicas if you’re a collector (like me) and you don’t care for shooting it much. The black version can be purchased much cheaper but is not metal. In finish, the chrome version is a good looker with little in the way of performance or realistic function but it’s a cool toy to spin and muck around with in front of the tv.
