Sturmmorserwagen 606/4 Mit 38cm RW 61L/3.5 - Sturmtiger - Forces of Valor MP-913003A

The Sturmmorserwagen was ordered in August of 1943 by Hitler. It was a speedy production cycle for this experimental howitzer, finished in just under four months (October 20, 1943). The original designation for the vehicle was the Panermorse 48 Auf Tiger otherwise known as “Sturmmorser”. Using a Tiger chassis, the early proto was first utilized at the Arys Training Area in East Prussia. The proto was unique for having twenty gas openings on the sheath of the gun barrel. Since it used a Tiger chassis, it still retained rubber rims for the wheels and was fortified with extra defense armoring on the front of the hull. Stencils bearing the specs 150m/43 were painted on the fighting compartment, but given that none of the Sturmmorserwagens exist today, all we are left with are photographs of the vehicle with much of the stenciling covered by a headlight. It is thought that the specs refer to the density of the armoring on the front of the vehicle and that 43 refers to the front armor angle from the vertical at 43-degrees.
